Legislation

The Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre (Perley Health) is a Corporation pursuant to the laws of the province of Ontario, incorporated by certificate dated 18 October 1897, and given its current name and objects by supplementary letters patent issued 29 December 1999.

In the provision of long-term health care in the province of Ontario, there are a multitude of laws and regulations that apply but there are some which stand out from the crowd for the purposes of Directors at Perley Health.

The first of which is the Ontario’s Corporations Act for it is under this statute that Perley Health gains its legal personality and Directors should have some familiarity with its provisions especially those provisions which apply to not-for-profit corporations.

The second key piece of legislation for Directors at the Perley Health is the Long Term Care Homes Act, 2007 and its Regulations which were amended August 01, 2011.

Directors should familiarize themselves with this legislation for it is this statute which governs the day-to-day activities at Perley Health.  There are other statutes that impact upon Perley Health and they are brought to the attention of Directors when issues arise that fall within their jurisdiction.

The above noted pieces of legislation can be found on the Government of Ontario’s website.
