RNAO Best Practice Spotlight Organization
It Takes a Team
Through a competitive process, the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) selects the Perley Rideau to become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization in 2016. Now entering the third and final year to earning the official BPSO designation, the Perley Rideau is implementing and evaluating best practices related to four areas: pain management; falls prevention; skin and wound management; and screening for delirium, dementia and depression. By putting the latest research into practice, reducing variation in care and eliminating interventions that have little effect, the initiative promises to further improve the quality of care delivered to residents of the Perley Rideau and of other long-term care facilities.

Celebrating Nursing Week 2018
We are proud to support The Ontario Nurses' Association and this week's celebration of Nursing Week 2018. Nursing Week is a time to recognize the year-round dedication and achievements of Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and to increase awareness of their contributions to the well-being of Canadians.
Here's a brief "Thanks" to kick off the week of events and activities at The Perley Rideau.
On the Journey to Become a Best Practice Spotlight Organization
Saying “YES” To Evidence Based Practice
As of April 2016, the Perley Rideau is proud to report their pre-designation into the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) program, marking the beginning of an innovative partnership with the Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario (RNAO).
For the Perley Rideau, doing the right thing means ensuring that Ottawa area seniors and veterans receive the highest standards of quality care. Achieving this requires excellent, resident-centered care that is based in research and a passionate team that says “yes” to evidence best practice.
BPSO is a quality improvement initiative created by the RNAO which is funded by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. The program helps organizations to implement recommendations from evidenced based documents called Best Practice Guidelines (BPGs). The goal is to develop, disseminate, and actively support the uptake of the BPGs as well as to evaluate their impact on residents, organizations and health system outcomes. Since 2003, this outstanding program has gained international attention and represents over 500 health-organizations across the globe.
Over 3 years, the Perley Rideau is working towards a full designation BPSO title. We are currently implementing the following four BPGs:
- Prevention of Fall and Fall Injuries in the in the Older Adult
- Risk Assessment and Prevention of Pressure Injuries
- Delirium, Dementia, and Depression in Older Adults.: Assessment and Care
- Assessment and Management of Pain
