Research Chair, Frailty-Informed Care

Summary of Opportunity

The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre seeks a highly qualified Research Chair to develop and establish a dynamic and sustainable research program focused on frailty management in long-term care.

The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre is one of Ontario’s largest and most innovative long-term care homes. Located on a 25-acre campus adjacent to The Ottawa Hospital, it is a unique Seniors Village with 450 long- term care beds, 139 independent-living apartments, and a growing number of clinical, therapeutic and recreational services available on-site. Perley Rideau is proud to serve a wide range of seniors in the community, including Veterans, and has earned a reputation of providing high quality care to the people it serves.

Perley Rideau plans to remain true to its longstanding commitment to research and learning, and will deliver even greater value to the healthcare system through the development of a Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care as part of the current strategic plan. By expanding programs and services along the continuum of care, facilitating strong collaborations with researchers, academic institutions, community agencies and industry, Perley Rideau will seize opportunities to lead and participate in innovative initiatives that will advance care, research and knowledge translation in frailty.

Building on the priorities of Perley Rideau, the Research Chair will: identify opportunities for innovation; leverage partnerships across academic and health sectors; attract highly skilled researchers and students; help establish secure funding; facilitate and conduct impactful research and promote knowledge translation activities that will ultimately advance care for the frail elderly.

An established researcher, or an emerging researcher with exceptional future promise, the successful candidate will work with staff, the Executive Team and Board of Directors to further establish research priorities and develop and direct the overall research agenda of Perley Rideau. He/she will build research capacity within the organization in the care of frail elderly and help increase the profile of the Perley Rideau as a Centre of Excellence on the provincial, national and international stage.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD and be actively conducting research in an area related to aging and care of the elderly. Alternatively, the candidate may be a physician with a strong commitment and track record in research. He/She will ideally commit a minimum of 2 days per week (0.4 FTE) to the position. It is expected that the Research Chair will remain in the position for a minimum of 3 years. The position is subject to review/renewal at the end of this period.
