Katrin Spencer is responsible for managing the Seniors’ Village Expansion at The Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre. She brings a depth of practical work experience in clinical, administrative and project management positions to this role. Most recently, Katrin led the Long-Term Care Redevelopment and the roll out of a co-design strategy for the Seniors’ Village at Arnprior Regional Health to better serve the seniors of the greater Arnprior community. Learning and seeing first hand that social isolation is one of the biggest risk factors for our senior’s population, she successfully advocated for funding and implemented a Seniors Active Living Centre in the Ottawa Valley. Prior to moving to Canada, Katrin gained hands-on experience when working for multiple years internationally at organizations caring for physically and mentally disabled youth, adults and seniors. Originally studying medicine in Germany, followed by graduating from the University of British Columbia in Neuroscience, Katrin has always been involved in the medical profession in different capacities. In 2016, she graduated from University of Ottawa with a Master of Health Administration, which complemented her knowledge in both sides of health care, from clinical to administrative roles and responsibilities and the duties these roles have to residents and patients. After many years abroad, Katrin now calls Ottawa her home. When Katrin is not busy raising her family and being a hockey mom of two boys, she enjoys being a violist in an Ottawa-based orchestra.
