An Adult Day Program is provided at the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre, 1750 Russell Road, operated by Carefor Health and Community Services. It is open to seniors 55 years and older with early to moderate stage Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. Clients come to the program from their own homes to enjoy a day of stress-free socialization and fun while family caregivers have a few hours off.
Two other respite care programs are offered at Perley Rideau: the Guesthouse which provides apartment-like accommodation for a few days or a few weeks, and short stay respite care beds in the Health Centre for those who need full time nursing care. These respite programs support those that wish to stay at home complementing Assisted Living Services provided directly in their homes.
A typical day at our Adult Day Program includes:
- Social time
- Activities like games, handicrafts and gardening
- Exercise program
- 3-course lunch
- Occasional outings around the National Capital Region
The cost is $20/ day. Transportation to the program, if required, is $12.50 daily.
